The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ekiti State on Tourism Development, Ekiti State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, and Triple G Eco- Revival Solutions, an NGO, teamed up in celebrating World Earth Day in a grand style.
With the theme, Clean Up Ekiti for Eco - Facility and Tourism, the participants who gathered and took off from the Pavilion at Fajuyi, were sensitized about the importance of the day and the need to imbibe the culture of cleanliness and support of the environment.
The Ekiti State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Princess Fakunle Okieimen Iyabo, talked on the essence of sustaining and enriching the Earth by protecting the fauna and flora.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ekiti State on Tourism Development, Ambassador Wale Ojo - Lanre, enumerated the relationship between the environment and tourism while Mrs Oluwaseyi Ebenezer, the initiator of the programme emphasised why, her organisation, Tripple G Eco - Revival Solutions sought a collaboration with government agencies in to add value to the Earth.
" As an NGO which has been in the state creating awareness about eco - system, deforestation, flooding and decapitation of trees which serve as shelter belt for the state, we are compelled to sponsor , arrange and collaborate with government agencies at hosting and aligning with global date in celebrating Earth Day today '
She tasked the people of Ekiti to enhance, protect and save the environment for the protection and sustainability of eco - facility.
Mrs Ebenezer said " On our part , Triple G Eco- Revival Solutions is committed to the restoration and revival of eco -ethos in Ekiti State '
The Speaker of Ekiti. State Youth Parliament, Rt Hon Oluwatoba Ayo Fatunla said it was a significant celebration which is protecting the Earth for the future
The President Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Eyitayo said he was impressed by the packaging of the programme which included the participation of youths who are the inheritors of the Earth.
He commended Triple G Eco- Revival for its strident strides at creating the awareness and raising the consciousness of Ekiti people on eco- revival and environment
The programme cultivated participants from NEMA, NESREA, Red Cross, Council of Nigeria Women, Road Safety, Civil Defence, NBA.
The participants took a swipe of the road from Fajuyi Park to Adebayo Street, a 4km Road, cleaning, creating awareness and educating the indigenes.
